Star Jennifer Holland says Peacemaker should face Bloodsport and Ratcatcher 2 again in the future after their stand-off in The Suicide Squad. The three characters made their DC Extended Universe debuts in the standalone sequel with John Cena starring as Christopher Smith/Peacemaker, Idris Elba as Robert DuBois/Bloodsport and Daniela Melchior as Cleo Cazo/Ratcatcher 2. The Suicide Squad also marked the DCEU debuts of a number of notable characters and stars, some of whom include David Dastmalchian as Polka-Dot Man, Sean Gunn as both Calendar Man and Weasel, Sylvester Stallone as King Shark and Nathan Fillion as T.D.K.
The Suicide Squad saw Viola Davis’ Amanda Waller building a new team of skilled Belle Reve prisoners to head to the fictional South American island of Corto Maltese to destroy all evidence of Project Starfish, a covert experiment involving the alien kaiju Starro the Conqueror. In addition to Waller, James Gunn brought back Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Joel Kinnaman as Colonel Rick Flag and Jai Courtney as George “Digger” Harkness, better known as Captain Boomerang. The Suicide Squad debuted to rave reviews from critics and audiences alike, becoming the second-best-received installment in the DCEU behind Wonder Woman.

While speaking exclusively with Screen Rant for the HBO Max series Peacemaker, star Jennifer Holland shared her thoughts on the future of John Cena’s titular character. Holland expressed her interest to see Peacemaker face both Bloodsport and Ratcatcher 2 after the events of The Suicide Squad, in which the trio had a deadly stand-off. See what Holland said below:
“The one that I always say is Bloodsport, because I think it would be fun if we ever got to have Bloodsport and Peacemaker together again. That would be a really fun thing to watch. But it would also probably be really interesting to see Ratcatcher 2 meet up with Peacemaker again and see how they interact with each other after what happened in the film. So, I don’t know. I think it would be fun to have any of them back into the mix.”
The Suicide Squad memorably ended with the apparent death of Peacemaker as Bloodsport shot through his bullet to save Ratcatcher 2, who witnessed Peacemaker kill Rick Flag in an effort to prevent him from releasing the details of America’s involvement in Project Starfish to the press. The film’s post-credits scene would ultimately reveal him to have survived both his gunshot to the neck and a large portion of Jotunheim collapsing on top of him as Starro broke free and began its rampage on Corto Maltese. Gunn’s DCEU follow-up, HBO Max’s Peacemaker, hasn’t shied away from exploring the ramifications of the events of The Suicide Squad, including the initial closing of his arc in the film and his killing of Rick Flag.
With Idris Elba having frequently expressed his interest in returning to the DCEU as Bloodsport and Gunn confirming future plans with DC for a new TV series, the door is open for he or Daniela Melchior’s Ratcatcher 2 to get further stories after The Suicide Squad. Should they take a similar approach to Peacemaker, in which both the future and past is explored for the titular character, it would be interesting to see Cena’s character forced to reunite with one or both of his former teammates on screen. In the meantime, audiences can catch up on The Suicide Squad on HBO Max now and watch new episodes of Peacemaker on Thursdays on the streaming platform.
